Walther P38

The Walther P38 is a semi-automatic pistol developed by Walther Arms shortly before World War II to replace the Luger P08. It is the first locked-breech pistol to use a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger that provides a secure way of having a round in the chamber at any time. The P38 features a visible and tactile loaded chamber indicator in the form of a metal rod that protrudes out of the top rear end of the slide.

The powerful 9x19mm Parabellum ammunition demanded to adopt a locked breech design. A moving barrel design system also provides good accuracy due to the in-line travel of the barrel and slide.

Particularly reliable, accurate and of a comfortable usage, France continued to produce P38 from the captured Mauser factory. Walther restarted to produce the P38 renamed as P1 from 1957 untill 2000.
