Colt 45

Though the Colt M1911 formerly Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1, original weapon was only chambered for the large .45 ACP caliber, it can be found .38 Super Auto (9 mm), and 22 LR too for training purpose.

The trigger operates in simple action, "single-action" because it performs the single action of releasing the hammer to discharge the firearm each time the trigger is pulled.

The ammunition is heavy and slow and generates important recoil with limited capacity of 8 round, one of which in the chamber. Any M1911 uses a short recoil operation system to compensate the power of the ammunition. The .45 ACP and the Colt M1911 have been brought to a USA tradition.

Particularly robust and entirely reliable, it was modernised to the A1 version in 1926 with a new simplified hammer and many details to improve the gripping ability.

The meticulous fabrication and the high quality parts allowed for thousands of 1911s and 1911A1s to be refurbished with new parts to the US Army (marked with the arsenal's initials, for instance RIA (Rock Island Armory) or SA (Springfield Armory).
